Van Haaften Calls For Greater Civility

"This morning, Larry Bucshon welcomed me to the 8^th District Congressional race with a negative, personal attack. At a time when we should be working together to find solutions to the problems in Washington, my opponent is engaging in more of the same ugly partisanship that has divided our state and our nation.

As a member of the Indiana legislature, I've worked with Democrats and Republicans alike - always aiming to serve the best interests of Hoosiers everywhere. That was true when I first entered the legislature, when I worked with Governor Daniels to change the laws to address the methamphetamine problem in Indiana, and it has been true ever since. That is how I represented Hoosiers in the Indiana State Legislature, and it is how I will represent you in the United States Congress - a place where there is far too much division, because Democrats and Republicans are not working together.

Rather than discussing the important issues facing our nation, or offering solutions to the myriad of problems in Washington, Larry Bucshon chose to start this campaign by making personal attacks against me. That is not how I plan to run my campaign; I believe it would be more responsible if we forego those personal attacks and instead address the important issues, which is what I intend to do, and what my campaign will be based on."
